At Clow Canada, teamwork means making sure team members are well equipped for their roles beyond the proper supplies and equipment. The facility completed a 10-week Workplace Essential Skills (WES) training for Filipino transplant employees.
WES training helps trainees acquire the skills they’ll need to succeed in the workplace. General Manager and Vice President Rick Benoit and HR consultant Tim Kelly partnered with New Brunswick Community College (NBCC), the YMCA and the Province of NB Continuing Education program to provide the training. Rick, Tim and the trainees worked together to design a curriculum that included English and math proficiency, digital literacy and critical thinking, which would not only help them at work, but also as they continue to prepare for obtaining Canadian citizenship.
All attendees took an initial assessment for a comparison metric prior to the training and after completing the full program, there was a remarkable 42% improvement in essential skills proficiency!
